Lincoln Award Teacher Training

The Lincoln Award Teaching pathway is coordinated by Careers & Employability in partnership with Lincolnshire ITT.

This is a unique opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in teaching to undertake a 1-week school experience . The scheme includes bespoke training from Lincolnshire ITT and support from Careers & Employability to complete this bespoke pathway through the Lincoln Award.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage with teachers and pupils to find out what teaching is really like!
  • Learn more about the classroom and how schools support children with various learning needs.
  • Observe lessons and, perhaps, plan and deliver part of a lesson for those who are keen.
  • Receive support and advice related to the Teacher Training application process.

Criteria:

  • This cohort is available to students from all subject areas. Due to visa compliance we are unable to offer this opportunity to Postgraduate international students.
  • This scheme is designed to support students considering teaching in the UK when they complete their studies. There are limited spaces, and the partner providers will shortlist based on their criteria for recruitment in the local area.
  • Primary and Secondary school are available and locations in central Lincoln, across Lincolnshire and neighbouring regions- more details will be available when applications open.
  • For Secondary teaching, it is highly desirable for candidates to have an A-level in the subject they would like to teach.
  • With regards to A-Level, you can choose a subject that you have an A-level in, especially prevalent concerning STEM subjects.

Timescales:

  • Applications Close: 13th March
  • Interview dates: W/c 23rd March
  • University in person induction: Thursday 23 rd April at 2pm – 3:30pm
  • Lincolnshire ITT online  induction and training: W/c 11th May
  • School Experience : W/c 8th of June
  • Presentation Day: 12th of June 9:30am – 1pm

Explore

This first section of Lincoln Award Teacher Training is all about exploring your skills, strengths, and motivations.

Step 1: Complete Skills Assessment

Your first step is to complete our Skills Assessment which should take around 20-30 minutes. You can access the skills assessment on CareerLinc. CareerLinc

  • Simply log-in to CareerLinc using your University username and password.
  • Click on “Skills” on the menu bar, and you can get started.
  • There are 30 definitions, and you simply choose the statement most relevant to each.
  • Once you have completed the Skills Assessment, please take a screenshot of your summary- you will upload this to your pathway on CareerLinc.

Step 2: Submit Skills Assessment evidence

At this stage you will become familiar with your Lincoln Award Teacher Training pathway and submit your progress.

Visit your Lincoln Award Teacher Training pathway on CareerLinc by clicking on the ‘Pathways’ icon on the menu bar or via Search. You should see your Lincoln Award pathway listed (if not please get in touch), simply click ‘Get Started’ or ‘Continue’ and you can see your pathway.  This is where you can monitor your Lincoln Award progress and submit activities. 

After completing your Skills Assessment, please upload a screenshot of your results summary and click ‘Submit’- we will verify this for you.

 

Develop

In order to complete the Lincoln Award Teacher Training Develop section, you will need to have completed your 1-week school experience along with your online learning courses and the online provider induction.

Teacher Training sessions

You will need to complete some training before your school experience on the following topics;

  •  Safeguarding (Online Course).
  •  Behaviour Management and Classroom Pedagogy – These are two pre-recorded sessions that you will be sent to watch prior to your internship.
  • Attend an online provider information session, which will be the last opportunity to ask any questions about your school experience. 

Apply

The final day of your school experience will be delivered back on campus and will involve reflection and assessment, as well as a celebration of your experience.

You will have the opportunity to reflect individually before working in groups to prepare a presentation on your experiences.  You will be assessed on this activity and receive feedback.  You will also be supported to complete an action plan to begin the next steps of your career journey.
