Global Opportunities

While studying at the University, you may have the opportunity to undertake an international experience, such as studying abroad, an overseas work placement, a short summer trip, or a volunteer placement.   Our dedicated Global Opportunities Team collaborates closely with partners from around the world to provide international mobility opportunities and support students throughout their entire journey abroad. Whether you are interested in studying abroad as part of your degree, looking to undertake a work placement or something else, there are plenty of opportunities available.

Study Abroad

As part of your undergraduate course, you may be able to participate in a Study Abroad programme for either a semester or a full year exchange. Study Abroad is a non-compulsory, competitive programme. Students who participate in this exchange will experience a different teaching and learning environment, explore other cultures and lifestyles, and increase their independence and adaptability.

The University has a growing portfolio of international partners, and students can opt to study in Europe or countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States. Refer to the map at the bottom of the page, which displays all partner universities.

Please check with your School or Global Opportunities if you are unsure whether this is available as part of your degree.

For further information on Study Abroad

A summer opportunity is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture by participating in a combination of social, cultural, and academic activities.

Students can undertake a variety of opportunities in the summer between each academic year, such as work placements, internships, summer schools and international volunteering.

Each year the university advertises summer opportunities for all undergraduate students. To see these alongside the range of opportunities from our external partners, please visit our Global Summer Opportunities page, via the button below.

Global Summer Opportunities

We work with several organisations that help students find volunteering opportunities worldwide. To find out more about how to get involved in volunteering during your time at Lincoln, please get in touch with the Global Opportunities Team. Contact the team

Turing funding

The Turing Scheme offers funding for international educational and training opportunities worldwide. Each year, the University of Lincoln bids for funding to support students undertaking an international opportunity.

Students eligible for funding will receive grant funding to support the expected travel and cost of living expenses.

Funding is only available to students currently enrolled at the University of Lincoln, recent graduates, or those undertaking an opportunity for a minimum of 28 consecutive days, from September 1st to August 31st, which may not cover all expected costs. Please contact GO@lincoln.ac.uk for further funding information and to apply for funding.

Funding is available for students who:

  • Study Abroad
  • Attend a summer school
  • Work abroad
  • Volunteer abroad

Funding is subject to availability, and priority is given to students who study abroad and those participating in university-managed opportunities. Turing funding will be not available after the academic year 2026-27 due to government changes and the UK rejoining the Erasmus scheme.

The UK government has announced that we will be rejoining the Erasmus scheme from summer 2027 to support with international opportunities. Further information will be added once the information is available.

Hear from our students

"Doing study abroad was the best decision I ever made. It made me learn lots of life skills. Having to adapt to a different culture and climate was testing at times but rewarding. The friends I made out there will be friends for life."
