Lincoln Award

Getting Started

To sign up for the award please book onto an Induction via the events page. These Induction sessions are delivered online.

What is the Lincoln Award?

The Lincoln Award is an employability framework designed to support, enhance and recognise extracurricular activity.

The Lincoln Award supports students to develop and learn how to demonstrate their employability skills; as well as taking part in activity you will be supported to reflect on your experiences and prepare to take on our Assessment Centre.  By completion of the award you will be confident communicating your skills to any employer!

How do I start and complete the Lincoln Award?

To get started with the Lincoln Award you need to attend an Induction Event; these run daily and are bookable in the Careers Centre or online. At the Induction you will receive information about all activities as well as an evidence booklet to complete. Find an Induction Event

When you leave the induction, your first activity will be completing the Careers and Employability Online Skills Assessment. Start the Online Skills Assessment

Why should I do the Lincoln Award?

  • Enhance employability through skills development
  • Gain recognition for achievements
  • Participate in activities, meet new people and have fun!
  • Put yourself to the test and face an employer in the Assessment Centre Experience

Every year the number of graduates is increasing and the competition is getting tougher. Employers are looking for candidates who stand out from the crowd and have developed their skills and ambitions – a degree is no longer enough to get you the job you want.

"I would definitely recommend that other students do the Lincoln Award. When you leave university there are going to be so many others with the same degree as you so it's really important to do things that will make you stand out against other applicants" - Mia, Business & Management Student

There are many things you can do to help you stand out from the crowd; in fact, you’re probably doing a lot of them already. The Lincoln Award provides recognition of the activities you participate in, and supports you to identify the competencies, skills and attributes employers are looking for.  The final part of the award involves you learning how to demonstrate these skills and we make sure you’re ready by putting you through our Assessment Centre Experiences with a real employer!

Whatever sector or career path you decide to follow employers will be looking for evidence of these core skills and competencies:

  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Leadership & Management

  • Digital Communication
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Resilience
  • Attitude & Initiative

Employers want to see evidence from a wide variety of experiences; citing examples from your course is not enough.  By completing the Lincoln Award you are not only supported in developing these competencies and skills but also in building the confidence to communicate your university experiences and successes to future employers.
