Financial resources for Global Opportunities

Students can receive funding to support with the expected costs of studying abroad, but it is unlikely that the funding will cover all expected costs. Current funding sources include:

The Turing Scheme

The Turing scheme is a government scheme that helps support with expected costs by providing cost of living support and an additional travel grant to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Funding is not guaranteed, but it is likely if the University of Lincoln receives Turing funding from the government. The Turing scheme will not be available after the academic year 26/27.

Erasmus

The UK government has announced that we will be rejoining the Erasmus scheme from summer 2027 to support with international opportunities. Further information will be added once the information is available.

Student Finance England – Maintenance Loan

Students who already receive a maintenance loan can apply for their maintenance loan for the period that you study abroad. For study in some countries, it may be possible to receive the maintenance loan in one instalment to assist with the financial element of visa requirements.

For Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish students, please check with your national student loans company for similar arrangements.

If you have any questions regarding your Student Finance England funding, you can speak to the Funding Advice team within the Student Support Centre – fundingadvice@lincoln.ac.uk

Student Finance England – Travel Grant

Students who already receive a maintenance loan may be eligible for a travel grant to cover some of your travel expenses, such as flight costs and essential expenses such as vaccinations and visas. More information can be found on the below link:
https://www.gov.uk/travel-grants-students-england

If you’re receiving funding from the Turing Scheme then you will not be able to get an SFE Travel Grant to cover the same travel costs.

Course related travelling grant

Funding is available to help with travel costs. This funding is managed by the Student Support team and students can receive up to £500 to support with expected costs. Students are able to apply on the student support website: https://studentservices.lincoln.ac.uk/life-at-university/money-management-financial-support/student-finance-and-funding/university-funds/financial-assistance-funds/

We recommend applying for this to support with the costs of visa appointments.
