How, when and why: Talking to an employer about a disability or mental health condition

4th August 2025, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join this workshop, designed for disabled students, to understand your employment rights, and learn to navigate the professional world with confidence. Whether you’re facing physical health conditions, or mental health conditions, this session is your stepping stone to understanding reasonable accommodations and the optimal time to discuss them with potential employers.

You’ll be equipped with information and resources to effectively advocate for your needs during job applications, ensuring your talents shine through. This isn’t just a workshop; it’s a safe space to explore your questions and concerns about entering the workforce.

Guiding you through this experience is Becki Commins, a dedicated Career Adviser who understands disability firsthand. Having navigated her own path after a stroke at 21, Becki brings a wealth of knowledge and empathy to the table, ready to support you in carving out your career with courage and resilience. Join us and transform the way you view your journey to employment.

This workshop can also be viewed on demand.

If you haven’t yet shared your disability, mental health or long term health condition with the university, we encourage you to access support by filling out the Student Wellbeing Self-Referral Form
