Taylor’s Graduate Story

Taylor is a Biomedical Science graduate who has secured a postgraduate place to study Medicine.

She has shared her experience of using the Careers & Employability service, and the Medical School application process:

Start gaining things for your CV early and keep a portfolio- take as many opportunities as you can and build on your education as it’s not enough in its own. Doing more shows you’re a well rounded individual and opens a lot more doors.

When applying for my postgraduate course, I undertook the UCAT exam for which I revised using Medify for 3 months before sitting the exam. Then I read the best selling MMI interview question book from the exam until the interview- the Multi Mini interview was online due to Covid and I used the guidance from the careers workshops about using STAR in combination with my book and using my work experience (I worked as a healthcare assistant in A&E during all of Covid). I had multiple areas of experience and achieved a 1:1 in my degree 2020. I worked in the hospital during my last year of university at Lincoln county and then transferred when university closed in the first lockdown to working at my local hospital (where I still work now) before going to medical school in September 2021.
