Hiscox University Data Challenge
20th October 2017
Hiscox would like to invite your society to take part in this year’s ‘Hiscox University Data Challenge’
Who are we?
Hiscox focuses on the protection of a range of commercial and personal risks which are often too complex or too specialist for other insurance companies to consider. And while we might be specialist, there is nothing niche about our size. As a FTSE 250 company, we are fast expanding with over 2,000 staff in 14 countries. Our plans for the future are ambitious, which is where you come in.
We’re offering you the chance to gain experience of the real world problems we face every day by taking part in the Hiscox University Data Challenge. You will be provided with access to industry experts, networking opportunities and sponsorship for your society.
Your aim is to use data to find business insights that can be applied to the way we run our company.
But this isn’t an easy task! You will be competing against other universities nationally for the chance to win top prizes and be crowned champions.
Of course all the support and help you need along the way will be provided for you!
First Prize: £1,000 sponsorship for your society
- Winning team will be fast-tracked to assessment centre for Graduate role
- Free Tableau licence for all team members
- Hiscox Sponsorship (subject to final confirmation): £250 society social fund
- Gain exposure to the insurance industry and Hiscox professionals through networking opportunities
- Get real world experience and see your hard work applied in a business context
- Test yourself to solve complex business problems.
We would expect students to apply to us as an already formed team. We recommend teams of between 2 to 8 students.
In terms of any other logistics of being involved, we suggest that the Challenge will involve a couple of hours work a week and we will be regularly checking in to see how you are getting on and answer any questions in a phone call once every two weeks. You will be invited to two events over the course of the Challenge, one at our York office in December which is a chance to meet the other student teams involved and a Presentation Day in March at which you will present your work.
If you are interested, please fill in a quick online application form:
