In most cases, you should make your application directly to the further study provider you are hoping to study with. There are some exceptions (such as with teaching and law) where you will need to apply through UCAS, similar to the application for your undergraduate degree - ensure you carefully read all instructions for application guidelines to meet all requirements.

There are often no closing dates to apply for many courses, however places for yearly intakes may fill quickly and you will want to have time to explore your funding options. There are no limits to the amount of applications you can make, but you will also want to take the time to tailor your applications.

Filling out a further study application form

These forms will usually ask you some standard questions about your personal details, as well as information about your undergraduate course. Be sure to emphasise modules you have undertaken which are especially relevant to the study you wish to go into. After filling out these details, you will usually be asked to complete a personal statement that outlines your desires and suitability for the course.

On our Personal Statement page we have created a suggested list of considerations for you as well as an example personal statement for a Masters degree, which you can adjust for your needs.

Hoping to study law or teaching?

UCAS requires specific personal statements for PGCEs and LPC applications. You can read more about applying for teacher training in our Guide to Teaching. You can also visit Prospects to view their guides for PGCE, LPC and other postgraduate study applications.
